Most small businesses are invisible on Google for a handful of fixable reasons. Here is where to start, step by step.

You search for your own business and find a directory listing, a competitor, or nothing at all. It is one of the most common worries we hear from business owners, and the good news is that the causes are usually simple and fixable.
Below are the six reasons we see most often, in the order we check them, with what to do about each one.
1. Google has not indexed your website yet
A new website is not automatically known to Google. Until its pages are found and indexed (added to Google’s list of pages), they cannot appear for any search. A quick check: search for site:yourdomain.com. If nothing comes up, Google does not have your pages yet.
- Add your site to Google Search Console (free) and verify that you own it.
- Submit a sitemap, a file that lists every page on your site.
- Open the Pages report and look for pages marked “not indexed”, along with the reason Google gives.
2. Your pages do not say what you do
Google matches pages to searches by their words. If your home page only says “Welcome” and “Quality you can trust”, nothing tells Google that you are a dentist in Dehradun or a caterer in Pune. Each service deserves its own page with a clear title, a heading that names the service and the city, and a few honest paragraphs about it.
3. You have no Google Business Profile
For local searches like “AC repair near me”, the map results at the top come from Google Business Profiles, not from websites. A complete profile is often the fastest way to start getting calls from Google.
- Choose the most specific primary category (for example “Dental clinic”, not just “Clinic”).
- Add correct opening hours, phone number, service area and website link.
- Upload real photos of your work, team and premises, and keep adding new ones.
- Ask happy customers for reviews, and reply to every review, good or bad.
4. Your name, address and phone don’t match everywhere
If your website, Business Profile, Facebook page and listings on sites like JustDial show different phone numbers or addresses, Google is less sure they all belong to the same business. Use exactly the same name, address and phone number everywhere.
5. The site is slow or hard to use on phones
Most searches in India happen on phones. Google measures how quickly pages load and respond on mobile, and visitors leave slow pages anyway. We cover the easy fixes in why speed on phones decides whether you get the call.

6. Nobody else mentions you
Links and mentions from other trusted websites (local news, associations, suppliers, business directories) tell Google that your business is real and relevant. Start with the directories your customers actually use, and make sure each listing links to your website.
SEO takes months, not days. But these basics cost little, and without them no amount of content or ads will work as well as it should. If you would rather have it done for you, our SEO team can set up Search Console, your Business Profile and your service pages, or you can simply ask us a question.
Questions people ask
How long does it take for a new website to appear on Google?
Usually a few days to a few weeks after Google finds it. Submitting a sitemap in Google Search Console helps Google discover your pages sooner, but ranking well for competitive searches takes longer.
Is Google Business Profile free?
Yes. Creating and managing a Google Business Profile is free. You need to verify that you own or run the business before it appears fully on Search and Maps.
Why does my business show on Maps but not in normal search results?
Map results come from your Business Profile, while normal results come from your website. If your site is not indexed or its pages do not clearly describe your services and location, it may not rank in normal results.
