Not more pages or more effects: a clear message, fast loading on phones, and an easy way to reach you.

Bright web design workspace with two computer screens by a window

A business website has one job: turn a curious visitor into a call, a message or a visit. Everything on it should help with that job or get out of the way. Here is the checklist we use when we plan a site for a small business.

Say what you do in one line

Within a few seconds a visitor should know what you offer, who it is for and where you work. Put that line at the very top, in plain words, before any slider or animation. “Home tuition for classes 6–12 in South Delhi” works better than “Empowering young minds”.

Make contact effortless

  • A call button and a WhatsApp button that work with one tap on a phone.
  • Your area, working hours and usual reply time, stated clearly.
  • A short enquiry form (name, phone, what you need) for people who prefer to write.
  • The same contact options at the top and the bottom of every page.

Build for the phone first

Most of your visitors will arrive on a phone, often on mobile data. Design every section for a small screen first: readable text, big buttons, light images. Then make it beautiful on desktop.

Show real proof

Photos of your actual work, names of real clients (with their permission) and honest reviews build more trust than any stock photo. Link to your Google reviews, and keep your portfolio current.

One page per service

Each main service should have its own page that explains what is included, who it is for, roughly how long it takes and how to get started. These pages are also what Google shows when someone searches for that service, which is why they matter for SEO.

The basics people don’t see

  • HTTPS (the padlock) on every page.
  • A unique title and description for each page, so Google shows the right snippet.
  • Fast hosting and compressed images.
  • Search Console and simple analytics, so you know what works.
  • A site you (or your team) can update without calling a developer for every change.

Questions people ask

How many pages does a small business website need?

Usually five to ten: home, one page per main service, about, contact, and a page for work samples or reviews. Add pages when you have something useful to say, not to fill space.

Should a small business website have a WhatsApp button?

In India, yes. Many customers prefer to message rather than call or fill in a form. A WhatsApp button that opens a chat with a short pre-filled message makes it easy for them.

How often should I update my website?

Check contact details, prices and offers whenever they change, and add new work samples or reviews every month or two. Fresh, accurate information helps both visitors and search engines.
