You don’t need to post every day. Three kinds of posts, a fixed rhythm, and a clear link back to you.

Social media can feel endless, so many owners either give up or post randomly. A small, steady plan works better than bursts of effort. This is the plan we suggest to local businesses starting out.

Set up the profile properly

  • Switch to a professional account (free) to get insights and contact buttons.
  • Write a bio that says what you do and where: “Bridal makeup · Jaipur · Home visits”.
  • Add your WhatsApp and website link, and your area.
  • Use Highlights for services, prices or FAQs, and reviews.

Three kinds of posts

  • Work: before/after photos and short videos of real jobs.
  • Help: one useful tip your customers often ask about.
  • People: your team, your space, a happy customer (with permission).

A rhythm you can keep

Two or three posts a week is plenty to start. Pick fixed days, take your photos and short videos once a week in one go, and reply to every comment and message quickly. Reels (short vertical videos) are the easiest way to reach people who don’t follow you yet; a simple 15-second clip of your work is enough.

Turn followers into enquiries

Followers don’t pay bills; enquiries do. End posts with one clear next step (“Message us ‘BOOK’ on WhatsApp”), mention your area, and keep your link in bio pointing to a page where people can call or message in one tap.

Questions people ask

How often should a local business post on Instagram?

Two or three good posts a week is enough to start. Consistency matters more than volume, so choose a rhythm you can keep for months.

Are Reels better than photo posts?

Reels are usually better for reaching new people, because Instagram shows them to non-followers. Photo and carousel posts are still useful for showing work clearly. A mix works well.

Should I run Instagram ads?

Once you have a few good posts and a clear offer, a small boosted post or ad targeted to your area can bring new followers and enquiries. Start small and track messages, not just likes.
